VWS Camp Update and Availability

Dear Vintners and Growers:  As the Harvest season progresses VWS is happy to report that we have had full occupancy for the last four weeks.  But as you are well aware each harvest is a bit different and this year we were able to open up early to make sure we had availability for the sparkling wine harvest.  We now have some occupancy at our St. Leo's campsite where we will continue to house Vineyard Workers and provide them with services.  It is important that you keep in mind the following.

1) We have availabilty for Vineyard Workers at our St. Leo's campsite.  We have available housing for Vineyard Workers right now, so if you know of anyone or crews that need housing please send them our way.

2) If you are in need of Vineyard Workers please call us.  We are in contact with crews and individuals that have recently left Sonoma and some that are here in Valley but would be willing to come back if they can be assured that work will be available.

1) Over the next two weeks St. Joseph's Medical Vans will be opening up their services on Tuesdays and Thursdays for any Vineyard Worker that is need of a dental or health check-ups.  Their availabilty will be based on need, so if you have a large crew that needs assistance or even a few individuals please contact us.  The Dental van is at our site on Tuesday and the Health Van is there on Thursdays on both days they are ready to see patients at 4:00pm.  There is a $10 fee for each visit, but as always we will not turn anyone away for lack of funds.

For all of the above assistance, please call our Camp Manager Octavio Chavez or Mario Castillo.  707.933.0897

This season was one of our most successful in providing services to Vineyard Workers.  We are continuing to think of innovative ways to provide our services and reduce the costs of providing housing.  We welcome your feedback, participation and support.

  Did you know?

Vineyard Workers Services Staff is trained in conflict resolution practices.  VWS at the beginning of the year went through a conflict resolution and mediation training to help us better serve our community and build our own skills.  As part of the process we need to complete service hours in our community.  We were given a special emphasis on conflict in the workplace, life skills and workplace skills.  The result is that we can be of service to the community by providing mediation support in English or Spanish for the Vintners and Growers of Sonoma Valley.  If you are experiencing any workplace conflicts and are in need of assistance please call VWS.

Did you know that each year VWS hosts the Mexican Consulate in Sonoma Valley to provide services to our community.  This Saturday September 27, 2008 over four hundred passports and identification cards will be given out at our event held this year at El Verano Elementary School.
