The mission of Vineyard Workers Services is to assist the farm worker community in the Sonoma Valley with finding safe, clean housing and help them meet basic human needs. VWS services focus on developing and operating permanent and seasonal housing for agricultural workers, both settled and migrant. It operates two seasonal migrant worker camps during the grape harvest season in the Sonoma Valley, and have partnered with Burbank Housing Corporation on a permanent farm worker housing project where 25 of the 80 rental units are set aside for agricultural workers and their families. Vineyard Workers Services, through their Farm worker Resource Center provides the Hispanic community a centralized location that offers translation services, job bank, ESL classes, referrals and an opportunity to be a voice in the Sonoma community through membership on the Farmworker Advisory Committee.
Vineyard Workers Services, has been in existence for more than 11 years, was originally organized out of the various homes of its volunteer founders. They organized to help relieve the suffering of the needy farm workers in the Sonoma Valley.
In 1995, VWS was incorporated as a 501 C (3) community-based non-profit organization. In June of 2000, VWS opened it Farm Worker Resource Center in Boyes Hot Springs. In addition to facilitating housing development and health operations, the Resource Center serves migrants and the growing year-round-resident farm worker population with a variety of essential services, referrals, and training.
An outstanding agency feature is the formation and regular meetings of the VWS Farm Worker Advisory Committee, which enables interested clients to formally take part in directing the programs and goals of VWS.
